James Ettwein lives in Boynton Beach, Florida with his wife, Sue, and Tessie, their black lab. He lived in Massachusetts for thirty years, but the nine feet of snow a couple years ago was too much! There is one essential book for new mothers - 'The Mothers' Almanac' (first edition). If I had to choose one for grandpa this would be it. Jim has a very readable style and his deep love comes through in every paragraph. There are many tips inside, some that you may already know and many that you either never thought of or have forgotten. Worth a read, but more than that. Worth keeping.

I have three grandchildren, one just a little over 1 month old. This book has given me so many great ideas on projects I can do for all of them so they can look back when they are older and see how they have grown and changed over the years. There is nothing pretentious here, no cliched "Hallmark Card" advice. There is only loving, common sense advice written from a grandfather's perspective. It focuses on the importance of patience, kindness, and being involved in their lives. I really loved reading "The Grandpa Book." It helped me see that what I am doing is what I should be doing, and it made me feel good about my relationship with my grandchildren.

Wonderful gift for a new Grandpa or Grandpa to be!

Wonderful book. I bought this for my wonderful brother-in-law who recently became a grandfather, but before I send it to him for Christmas, I read the book. Loved it. Jim's love and wisdom come through on every page, and I especially liked the quotes he proveded from others. It's a quick, easy read but more importantly, there are quite a few really great practical pieces of advice for new grandfathers to put into practice. Heartwarming and enjoyable. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed The Grandpa Book; listening to this book was a lot of fun. Jim's got a great, straightforward, conversational style which made this a great listen. He gives great advice couched in "non-advice", non lecturing terms. His joy in his family is so evident, it's heartwarming and rings true. His grandchildren are lucky indeed to have him for a grandpa. As I listened to this book, I was reminded more than once of one of my favorite books, Tim Russert's Big Russ and Me. The emphasis on family and the wonderful memories of his own grandparents are shared with us freely and openly by Jim. These qualities can be so lacking in our "hurry-up" world; this book is a welcome and needed change. The author stays grounded. His advice is wonderful and, practical and kind. Books like this are just what we need to remind of us that the simple things in life are the most important. If you are a grandparent, read this book. If you aren't a grandparent, read this book.

What a great book - for fathers or grandfathers! The approach is reassuring, unassuming, and humorous. The messages I took away are: be patient, be involved, listen, and have fun. But every page of it is worth reading. It provides original advice, reminders of notions you already knew to be true but forgot, and even some tips that might be hard for the reader ("Get an iPad," and "conversion of old media to something you can watch again...and share with the next generation easily is a noble task," and "save most of your advice until you're asked").This book is a joy to read and full of useful insights, whether you're a grandpa or a future grandpa.

It's a nice little book - I thought it would have a little more content, but it will be a nice stocking stuffer.
