Boulder County contains more than 45,000 acres of open space, and is a place where the plains meet the mountains, resulting in a very biodiverse environment.I liked the book's arrangement by seasons; where to go, when to go, and what to see in spring, summer, fall, and winter. The author, who also published the Peterson "Field Guide to the North American Prairie," provides useful information about the many wildflowers, butterflies, and other wildlife that can be seen in the numerous habitats found in the county. The book also contains an "earth almanac" describing the natural events one can expect throughout the year. A "destination directory" provides directions to various hiking trails. I found it an invaluable reference.
