Great tool for acupuncture students!

I like the fact that it has questions after each chapter which helped to reenforce what was learned. The book is paperback and small so accidental folding will happen. In comparison to other microbiology books this book is straight forward and the wording is well presented to me as a student.

I bought it for class, and my professor uses it RELIGIOUSLY. All in all it is a great book, easy to follow, and not massive like some of the other science books have been.

A must read for microbiologist.

About the Author

William Cunningham is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Minnesota where he taught for 36 years in the Departments of Botany and Genetics and Cell Biology as well as the Conservation Biology Program, the Institute for Social, Economic, and Ecological Sustainability, the Center for Environmental Learning and Leadership, and the McArthur Program in Global Change. He received his Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Texas in 1963 and spent two years at Purdue University as a postdoctoral fellow. At various times, he has been a visiting scholar in Sweden, Norway, Indonesia, and China, as well as several universities and research institutions in the United States.Dr. Cunningham has devoted himself to education and teaching development at the undergraduate level in biology.  He began his educational career in structural biology but for the last 10-15 years has concentrated on environmental science, teaching courses such as Social Uses of Biology; Garbage, Government, and the Globe; Environmental Ethics; and Conservation History.  Within the past four years, he has received both of the two highest teaching honors that the University of Minnesota bestows  -- The Distinguished Teaching Award and a $15,000 Amoco Alumni Award.  He has served as a Faculty Mentor for younger faculty at the university, sharing the knowledge and teaching skills that he has gained during his distinguished career.

Audible Review: I did a re-listen when I bought the audible companion. I still stand on my review below and I think everyone will enjoy this narrator. I had no issues distinguishing between characters and while I didn't really like her Hudson voice in the first book, I have either grown accustomed to it or she got better in this book.Story Review: There is a whole lot of crazy going on in this series and I'm loving every minute of it. I'm completely enthralled with what is unfolding in this story. There is so many secrets, lies and sabotage. I think normally I would feel that would be too angsty of a read, but the way the author has written this series has made this a very exciting read.I absolutely love Hudson. Alayna, not so much. She's way too emotional, but this wouldn't be what it is if she wasn't constantly questioning and seeking the truth. Celia is cray cray! I predicted I wanted to push her off a cliff in the first book and that still stands. How Alayna can't see the deception in Celia is beyond me. Celia is the perfect example of other women drama that is done right in a series.Did I mention I love Hudson? I'm not sure I should. He has done some mean things in his past that should make any women in his life question if he is doing the same thing again. He says he isn't like that anymore and all signs point to Alayna being love at first sight for him, but I just know there is something that is about to hit the fan. On to book 3!

Before you read, you should know this is an ADULT book - lots of sex and and more sex and plenty of sex. And cursing. If you don't like that, don't read this.I do like it. And those scenes were great. That is why I kept reading.It's the stuff between that I didn't enjoy. Laynie is whiny, superficial, and paranoid. I knew this from the first book. However this book really highlighted those character flaws. She had less brains going on and too much getting in her own way. The writing came off as repetitive (Hudson can't know..., I don't really belong here..., Hudson and Celia...) and boring. But those sex scenes were good stuff.Not sure about Book 3 yet. I am sure I will get to it, only because I'd like to check in on Hudson and his very slow realization that he deserves to be loved and can love. But for now, I am done with Laynie.

Paige is a talented writer but elements of the story were tiresome by the end of book 2. The woman's character is a major head case, which is difficult to relate to. The sex is way too frequent that it's comical and the overall time frame is way too short. These factors are largely driving my rating, although I do like other elements of Paige's writing and will read a book outside of this series to see if it's just the female character that bugs me.

“Found In You” is book two in the Fixed Universe series and picks up where we last saw Alayna; being dropped off at Hudson’s penthouse in the middle of the night when she was done at the club. She was in love with him and she knew this was important to their relationship. Hudson shares very little with her and the fact that he wanted her with him at the penthouse was monumental. Alayna was sure that Hudson cared for her deeply, but there was still so much she didn’t know about him which has made her wonder if they can ever truly be happy.She loves his sister Mira, and his father Jack is delightful, but his mother Sophia is a nasty woman who will never be happy until she forces Hudson to marry Celia. She criticizes and demeans Alayna whenever she sees her, and it is obvious that she is a crazy alcoholic whose goal in life is to make everyone miserable.Hudson’s relationship with Celia weighs heavy on Alayna’s mind even though he explained to her that they are only friends, and nothing more. She sees the way Celia looks longingly at Hudson and it is obvious she wants more than friendship. Perhaps becoming friends with Celia will work to her advantage because she can find out how she truly feels about Hudson, and at the same, discretely inquire about Hudson’s past. What could possibly go wrong?Will Hudson be able to assure Alayna that she is the only woman for him even after she questions his every move?Can Alayna really trust Celia to be honest with her about Hudson or does she have her own agenda?The characters in “Found In You” are so into each other’s business that it was impossible to guess what could possibly happen next. Hudson and Alayna officially become a couple but family interference and past indiscretions are determined to tear them apart. I can’t get enough of this series and I am looking forward to reading the next installment, “Forever With You.”

While the passion continues to escalate between Alayna and Hudson, in book two of the Fixed series, we also find our characters facing some unexpected turmoil, that neither saw coming.Alayna and Hudson both seemed perfect for each other. They both approached relationships alike - in a dysfunctional type manner. So it was somewhat surprising to see them both evolve as they continued to grow closer. We see both characters giving up some of their control and even begin trusting one another. But, maybe they were better off staying guarded and having their suspicions about one another like they would have in previous relationships.As they make strides with one another, outside influences begin to pierce the bubble of happiness that they are living in. Will the fact that our love birds are keeping secrets come to fruition in a natural manner? Or will their happiness be shattered by someone just outside of their bubble of happiness and by someone thought of as a friend nonetheless?If you want to find out the answers to these queries, and get a first-hand look into the lives of two of the hottest couples that I have ever read, I strongly encourage you to read, Found in You. Well written series with a cast of characters you come to love. Skip is not the usual detective and that's endearing. Using her uptown connects with her police skills and her native New Orleans knowledge she cracks the case while her life evolves away from work. Love the colorful setting as well, it rings true.

This series is not to be missed! Julie Smith is a very talented writer. Her ability to plunge readers into the world of New Orleans is incredible.I read most of the series as individual books. I find it easier to follow the series that way. However, this is an opportunity to enjoy the entire Skip Langton series in order, and for this series, I find it best that way.Set aside a good chunk of time; you won't want to put it down.The first book sets the scene. I could feel the dense humid atmosphere of a New Orleans summer envelope me as I learned about the city's cultural background. As with other series, Julie Smith's ability to engross the reader with great skill is stunning. I had the good fortune to visit the city, and even though it was about 50 years ago, she exquisitely describes the French quarter, right down to the cafe au lait and beignets. An amazing introduction to the world of Skip Langdon.The series moves on to set the stage for the many and varied characters. The talent to slide seamlessly among the cast to give each his or her unique personality is more typical of good literature than any "cozy" I have ever come across!The series provides a superb travel through Skip's dysfunctional family forest.The first three volumes set the scene, and introduce the primary characters. However, don't get too comfortable. The fun is just starting!As the series progresses, the tales take some darker turns, but never loses the underlying wit and charm possessed by the leading characters. To avoid any inadvertent spoilers, I will skip any more details.Suffice it to say that I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys really great writing. Julie Smith is a great find. Her other series are also not to be missed (particularly the Talba Wallis set). But I digress.Thank you for the gift of your writing. It just doesn't get any better. Recommendation: READ THIS SERIES!!

The character development was so good. Each time I sat down to read, I felt like I was with people I knew. I read every night before bed, and it's always been my reading time, but as I went through the series, I began to think of it as 'spending time with Skip', or 'adventure time with Skip'. I absolutely LOVED this series.One part I very much appreciated was in the last book of the series where part was set in Dallas. I'm originally from there, and I could follow the chase through town in my mind so easily because the streets, their descriptions, even the country club were described precisely as they are in real life. I am not as familiar with NO, but seeing how accurately Dallas was depicted makes me feel like I got real insight into NO culture both macro and micro.Great job, Julie. I hope there will be more adventures with Skip in my future. I love her! (And DeeDee, and Bear too!)

I really liked this series. I have a familiarity with New Orleans so it was really fun to read about the different areas of NOLA and know what she was referring to. All the story lines were intense but had enough quirkiness to lighten the dire situations. I would highly recommend this series.

I really like the New Orleans setting having once visited as so many of the locales are places I have visited. But the books are not written only for visitors and all the necessary info for the story to make sense is shared in the stories to make sense to a non-visitor. New Orleans has such a fascinating Cajun/Creole culture to it which surfaces from time to time in the stories. The price is great too for a series of 9 books. I had already bough three of the books but when I came across the series I bought it to get the whole set. Skip Langdon is a 6 foot tall female detective with the New Orleans Police Department and a completely different view of police work. She comes to police work with a fascinating New Orleans upper-crust upbringing and after leaving college and the debutante society behind she begins living in San Francisco where she embraces a completely city and culture and while there get bitten by the police but. A series of events there draws her back to New Orleans and she ends up on the police department. She is a completely free spirit and her living situation is an unusual one. I find each book to be interesting and full of enigmas leading up to an unseen conclusion. Well worth buying.

I love this series. There are some editing issues in the kindle version but it doesn't detract much from the stories. I'm enjoying the glimpse into New Orleans in the pre-cellphone era. Skip is a great character; smart, goodhearted, and tough while having the same insecurities many of us have.

Skip is certainly not what you would expect, and definitely not what other people wanted her to be either.Loved the down home, got no time for your crap attitude. Makes you feel at home without ever leaving your chair. Like real life, the bad guy doesn't always get what he deserves, but you just have to keep slugging away, hoping that you are making a difference.I stayed up late many times hoping to finish the book 'cause they were that good!

Started off a little slow...wasn’t sure if I was going to like the series. But after finishing all of them today, I’m a fan! Julie Smith writes New Orleans so well that the reader feels like they are right there in the sweltering, steamy humidity of the Quarter. I like that Skip is a flawed hero, she questions herself and her methods at times. I’m hoping there will be more in this series!

Opposing the strict preservationists, he supports the "cull the herd" viewpoint, but he is also convinced that the real problem is human population growth and the resulting inevitable wildlife/human competition for resources. Well it was a bit disappointing as it was not exactly as described. I wanted to see more of his notebook pages rather than hear about his exploits.

It pretty tough to go wrong with any of Peter Beard's books but I loved this one as it really gave a bit more insight into how he was able to livesuch a fantastic adventurist life. And of course the photos were just brilliant.

This book opened the door to a family trip to Africa which he had wanted to make years back, but had no idea what to expect. Bread's book provided that background and stimulated the entire family's interest. The book was much more than just a good read. It was a constant companion on their trip this past June and was consulted constantly. The book becfame another member of the family.

Peter Beard has not gotten wiser in his old age. He has given into his vices and chosen the superficial payoffs over any morals. He has found no escape from his aimlessness, no direction from his chaotic meanderings. Where has this man ever really gone? Why has he become so tragic? This book reveals the illusion of greatness, the anticipation of accomplishment. But sadly, decades later, we see how withered and little this man has become. One wonders, was he ever even exceptional? He seemed fearless and passionate. Now, he just seems fatally emphatic and senseless. He is like a machine grinding to a halt.
